Cube EScape Paradox is the tenth installment in the series developed by Rusty Lake and stars the infamous detective Dale Vandermeer, who locked in a room with retro decor, must solve a series of puzzles in order to escape.
In this article, I will show you the main similarities and differences between the famous Rusty Lake game and our MysterUs.
Accurate graphics, gradually more complex puzzles, and a room to escape from: Cube Escape Paradox has all the elements for a classic MysterU room and is of excellent quality. However, it still remainsĀ a classic MysterU room.
What we propose, however, is something unique. In fact, what makesĀ our MysterU escape roomsĀ unparalleledĀ is the fact that theĀ solutionsĀ to the puzzles and riddles you’ll find throughout the game will beĀ scattered across the web! As if you were a real agent, your job will be to search for hidden information on the Internet (don’t worry, no dark web!) and you will have the opportunity to feel a bit like Penelope in Criminal Minds.
In this regard, I would like to make a disclaimer: MysterUs may be addictive. Once you start, it will be really hard to stop! Don’t say I didn’t warn you! If you are reckless, read on.
But then, you may ask, why has Cube Escape Paradox been so successful despite being a more than ordinary game?
Cube Escape Paradox: The Short Film
“It’s hard for some people to escape from this place… and she’s coming”: an enigmatic voice answers the phone as the detective still doesn’t understand why he ended up in that room.
As you may have guessed, then, the answer is as simple as it is strategic. Adding to the fascination and also an aura of mystery is the launch of the eponymous short film at the same time as the video game. The result, then, is a well-structured interweaving of fiction and reality, real actors and hand-made drawings.
The well-known actorĀ David BowlesĀ plays Detective Vandermeer with suspenseful music in the background, almost reminiscent of the buzzing of a bee which, only those who have played Paradox can recognize.
There are numerous references to the short film, starting from the three wooden cubes representing the past, present, and future to the globe that hides the bottles. During the film, there are references to the game and during the game, there are references to the film. The line between the two is really thin and perhaps, that is what gives both an anxiety-inducing atmosphere.
I highly recommend watching the short film before playing so that you can fully appreciate the nuances that both have to offer. Imagine being in the detective’s place and seeing an animated drawing on TV depicting you inside the room you are in. Suggestive isn’t it?
Similarities and differences between Cube Escape Paradox and MysterU
Cube Escape Paradox’s experiment, therefore, turned out to be successful because it was able to create expectations in fans of the series while at the same time piquing the curiosity of those who were not yet familiar with it.
But it certainly cannot be called innovative. The dynamics and even some of the objects are the same as in previous episodes of the Cube Escape series. It certainly remains a great pastime, given also by the fact that you can download it to your smartphone, unlike many entirely online escape rooms.
Our MysterUs are developed around a story, or rather aĀ plot, just like the Cube Escape Paradox, in which a secret agent needs a helping hand to solve a case.
Another common element is.Ā usabilityĀ of the game. In fact, you can also take part in the investigation from a smartphone or tablet, as well as from a PC. Needless to say, you will look much more professional with the computer!
In both, there areĀ riddles and puzzlesĀ to solve, however, as I had already anticipated, in MysterU the respective solutions are hidden around the web and it is up to you, the investigator, to find them! And that is precisely the substantial difference between the two.
Conclusion
As is often the case, many ideas do not originate on their own but always take inspiration from something. Thus, the basic idea is the same but gives rise to two more different results.
If with Cube Escape Paradox you can have the badge, with MysterU you can have the whole kit, starting with the investigation team composed of your friends! The experience with MysterU becomes, therefore, much more dynamic, rich and above all sociable. What are you waiting for?
Take out the magnifying glass from the drawer and step into theĀ store!
