How an Escape Room Works: An Explanation!

Are you wondering how an escape room works? Well, if you have never played it and are not sure what it is, we will explain it to you in this article.

In recent years, escape rooms have grown considerably and have also evolved and improved virtually, for example, MysterU cases!

How an Escape Room Works: The Origin Story

how an escape room works

The first escape rooms appeared in Japan in 2007 as an adaptation of the video game Crimson Room, by Toshimitsu Takagi. This live-action creation meant that the player was immersed in a world that was previously only virtual, thus enhancing the experience of the game.

Again, I have to bring you back to today for a moment; pointing out that we at MysterU, with its puzzles in the open web, have also made a simple virtual game immersive and very realistic, rather than a classic escape room.

Returning now to the escape room and how an escape room works, we must mention that in less than a decade these have spread throughout Europe, the first nation to open one was Hungary in 2011. Of course, this phenomenon has also invaded the United States and the rest of the world to become for all intents and purposes a real live role-playing game suitable for everyone.

How an Escape Room Works

So, as you may have also guessed from the name, escape rooms are rooms or a single room, depending on the setting you choose, from which you need to escape.

That’s right: you will be locked within four walls and you will have to solve puzzles, open padlocks, discover secret messages, try different combinations, and much more; all this will serve you to break free and win: of course, there is no prize at the end, only the knowledge that you have succeeded.

The escape room generally works as I just explained but already if you consider the Maniac Palace which is unique you will have to escape from an entire abandoned building with as many as 52 rooms on three floors.

Of course, it is not that easy, because unlike MysterU, here you will have a time limit, that depending on the escape, consists of 60 minutes or 90 minutes.

Escape rooms have different settings, in fact, you can choose the one you prefer. You can find investigative escape, adventure escape, historical escape, horror escape and many others.

For example, if you choose the horror one, it will have fewer difficult puzzles than the other types, but the difficulty will come from the pathos and emotions you will experience. It should be pointed out that what makes the resolution of these horror escapes difficult is the presence of actors who enter the scene when you least expect it. You will therefore understand the level of tension that can be created; in fact, they are not recommended for pregnant women and the faint of heart.

How an Escape Room Works: Booking

What do you do when you decide to play an escape room? Simple, the next step is to book the game session. Then, you need to choose the one you prefer and contact them. You can do this by calling them directly or by writing to the addresses they have in their contacts. Some escape rooms allow you to book the experience directly by checking availability. So, after you have chosen the day and time all you have to do is report your call sign, the type if there is more than one escape room present, and how many players you are.

How an Escape Room Works: the Fear of Failure

Escape room players should not start out with the negative thought that they will fail; if you are not logical or do not like dealing with numbers, get someone on your team who has these qualities so that you can best succeed in completing the mission. Surely you will have other qualities that will be helpful in solving the case.

If the escape room seems too difficult, do not give up! Usually, the owners or managers observe you throughout the game and if you ask, they can give you some suggestions or hints. Another important thing: if you feel sick, or for any reason you fly out, the managers will agree to your request.

Now, you have no more excuses, and you know all about how an escape room works.
