What does the premise we are about to make have to do with escape games? Read on to will find out.
Where It All Begins
There’s the little boy who starts school and, after a first glance at his classmates, has already realized that the one with the red backpack is self-centered but nice; the one with the blue glasses is pretty, but not for him; with the skinny guy with the AC Milan sweatshirt, he will never get along. But there is also the little girl who, after a fleeting glance exchanged with her new desk mate, in less than an hour has already tracked down his address, soccer team and great-aunt’s maiden name.
Escape Rooms: What’s Your Look?
What then does this premise have to do with escape games? The answer is very simple: in each of us lies at least one of the two identities mentioned above.
The Profiler
The first, the profiler, is the one who can see the mystery behind the person, who scrutinizes the deepest meanderings of the human being. But more importantly, he is also able to make the reverse procedure! If, staying in the example, we told the little boy from before that we met a person in whom we saw certain behaviors, he would immediately know how to give us a detailed description of his way of dressing, relating to others and his habits.
The Investigator
The investigator, on the other hand, is the one who follows well-founded leads, who can collect information even where there would seem to be none. The young girl mentioned above, for example, will have mobilized friends, alumni, and teachers. She will have been busy on social media, searching through everyone who tagged the school. She will have scoured countless profiles and message boards until she reaches her goal.
Escape Games: How and With Whom to Deal With Them With?
Well, in order for escape games to become accessible to you as well, you need to specialize in at least one of the disciplines we have mentioned. In fact, depending on which cases you try your hand at, you may find yourself having to expend one, rather than the other skills. There will be missions requiring more investigative skills; others, to be solved, will need more analytical skills in understanding the human psyche.
No one component is more important than the other. That’s why, a good solution if you don’t want to let your head explode from too much reasoning could be to approach your escape games as a team. This way you can combine different skills, abilities, and inclinations to create the perfect team capable of overcoming any challenge that comes your way. Usually getting to know each other helps, so it might be a good idea to tackle different adventures with the same team. It is equally true that by experimenting with new alchemists you might discover new and explosive synergies.
First Rule: Have Fun!
In the opening of our article, we brought two children as examples of investigator and profiler. And this is no accident. We did not do so because they are the purest or the smartest. We are talking about escape games that, as such, must be approached.
Who better than a child can teach us the spirit in which to play the game? The little boy “profiler,” after his very careful analysis, will be the first to change his judgment about the fellow wearing the Milan sweatshirt because the latter will have invited him to his birthday party (thankfully!). And our young investigator, who has put her heart into her research work, will abandon all her resolutions the following day.
This is exactly what we are talking about: escape games, but still games, which as such must be experienced. They require commitment and passion, they invite you to put all your strength into them, but they remain games. That is why their first goal is to entertain.
