The DGSE was created in 1982 and operates under the French Minister of Defense. It numbers more than 5,000 people.
Bundesnachrichtendienst, the full name of the German agency, was founded in 1956. Its headquarters are not in Berlin, as one might think, but in Pullach, near Munich.
