Escape Room Enigma: The 5 Mysteries Still Unsolved!
1- Manuscript of Voynich
This would be perfect in escape rooms as a puzzle but let’s take a closer look at what it is. The Voynich manuscript is a 15th-century text written in an unknown language. This document, which as you see is encrypted, has never been deciphered. It is assumed, therefore, that it was written in a cryptographic code in elegant calligraphy. The manuscript is filled with many illustrations including images of plants and portraits of naked women, and these iconographies have interested many researchers, cryptographers and linguists but never has anyone to date been able to decipher the volume.
It is named after Wilfred M. Voynich, a rare book dealer who purchased the tome from the Jesuit order in 1912. In 2016 Siloe, a Spanish publishing house, bought the rights to produce several copies and make it more accessible to more people.
2- Bermuda Triangle
One enigma you may have heard of is the Bermuda Triangle. Here, in this triangular section of the North Atlantic Ocean, several ships and planes have disappeared over the past 500 years. This area, for those who do not know, is bounded by the British overseas territory of Bermuda, Miami and Puerto Rico. The first time the term “Bermuda Triangle” was used was in a 1964 article by Vincent Gaddis. From now to the present, everyone has ventured different theories, at the moment the most plausible is the one presented by the Channel 5 documentary “The Bermuda Triangle Enigma,” which speculates that the disappearances are attributed to 30-meter-high tidal waves sweeping over ships and planes circulating in the area.
3- Stonehenge
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument composed of massive standing stones. This impressive work is located in southern England and is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some scientists speculate or rather have determined, that it was the movements of glaciers and not humans that contributed to the uplift of the rocks over time. In any case, the purpose of this sculpture always remains a mystery; what do you think?
4- Jack the Ripper
A truly enigmatic character is certainly Jack the Ripper, who in 1888, between August and November, killed and mutilated at least five prostitutes in London’s East End. These were called the “Whitechapel murders” after the name of the area where the crimes were committed. The name Jack the Ripper comes from his signature on an anonymous letter that was sent to a London news agency confessing to the crimes. This letter was later found to be false and to this day, many speculate about the true identity of the serial killer of all time!
5- Mohenjo Daro
The last riddle still unsolved, not like escape room puzzles, is Mohenjo Daro which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This impressive archaeological site flourished about 4,500 years ago and the civilization that lived there mysteriously disappeared. The city of Mohenjo Daro remained unknown until 1911 when archaeologists found it. What is special about it is the sophisticated drainage system and the grid-like layout of the roads, which was not usual for an ancient population. What happened to this civilization still remains a mystery!
Now that you know these five mysteries you can devote yourself to the escape room puzzles in your areas!
