1. As the title of this game says, it is an escape, but not an escape room; Escape The Dark Castle is a boxed game distributed in Italian by Ghenos Games, conceived by Alex Crispin, Thomas Pike and James Shelton.
This is a very fun fantasy adventure game with a nice atmosphere. It can be played by 1 to 4 players from 14 years old, upwards. Just like our games the Black Tulip and Dinner with Murder!
The Dark castle escape game takes an average of thirty minutes and you will only need two minutes to prepare it. You should know, that each castle will be randomly generated; but this is a good thing, because then no two matches will ever be the same, and every play will be different! In the box, of course, you will find the rules, which are really very simple. You only need to read them once to understand them and you will be immediately ready to set out to play Escape The Dark Castle!
As you may have guessed, for this game to be so popular with players, it is that no matter how simple the rules are, there will be many times where you will not be able to win against it. What you need to do is try and try again until you are the master of the game!
In the game you will be imprisoned, unjustly, in the depths of the Dark Castle. You and your fellow adventure prisoners will be medieval commoners (the miller, the cook, the abbot, etc.) and you will have to manage to get out of the castle to save yourselves!
It will not be that simple because the castle is full of traps, challenges and mysterious characters that you will have to face in order to succeed in advancing. You will then have to solve what is reported behind the Chapter cards. This will be done thanks to the Chapter cards and what is written and drawn behind them. Compared to other games, here, you will not take a turn, but decide by mutual agreement which player should draw and then read the card.
Hidden behind, as we said, there will be either a terrible monster to face or a test to overcome in order to escape from the castle. But remember that if one of the players dies during the escape, the game will end instantly and you will have to start over from the beginning.
The use of data to defeat various monsters leads to very special dynamics, which we do not want to reveal, so be prepared for some twists and turns. In short, there are a lot of super twists and turns as in the Cook; when you think you have it all figured out but it’s not quite what it seems and you have to decide which side you are on!
Another important thing in the game is that you might collect items that you find along the way, take them all because even the silliest thing might come in handy in some situations.
2. The second thing to know about Escape The Dark Castle is that in addition to the game, as is often the case with these types of games, there are some expansions which can be purchased separately and can make the game even more interested.
There are three expansions in Escape The Dark Castle in question and they are: Cult of the Death Knight, Scourge of the Undead Queen and Blight of the Plague Lord.
First, Cult of the Death Knight, introduces curse cards and the Cult Dice. Otherwise it adds three new characters with their respective dice, a Boss card and as many as 15 chapter cards.
Second, Scourge of the Undead Queen, adds like the previous expansion, one boss card and 15 chapter cards. Then, you will find several new object and event cards, three companion cards accompanied by their corresponding dice, and in addition the Spell dice. The most important object cards include the Book of Spells Where you will be able to roll an appropriate dice.
The latest expansion of Escape The Dark Castle is the Blight of the Plague Lord where again, you will find a boss card, 15 chapter cards. Three new characters with dice and the plague card With the corresponding plague nut.
Escape The Dark Castle is a nice board game that entertains and enthralls, also, the illustrations are reminiscent of the early 90s book games.
