Valentine’s Day for him, in a word, is a drama. Whatever meaning you want to attach to those words. From his point of view, it is a holiday that is easy to forget about and that he has not yet figured out how to interpret. If, on the other hand, the “for him” means that you are looking for a suitable gift, we are sorry to say that your mission is almost impossible.
However, you have come to the right place: we are ready to provide you with some suggestions. Your “he” will greatly appreciate the chocolates, the pillow with your photo, and the album with your best memories. He will go over it, though. Not with a car, mind you. Simply, these gifts will fall into the great abyss – huge, for men – of forgetfulness. It will not be done maliciously: he would not want to let these things go, but he will.
When you ask him, “Love, do you remember what I gave you for Valentine’s Day?” he will tell you that yes, he remembers, but looking carefully you will see appearing on his face the typical boiled fish expression, a clear sign that he has no idea what you are talking about.

It all starts when he remembers, which is on the morning of February 14. In spite of the fact that every year he makes a point of thinking about it earlier, the ritual is repeated unchanged every 365 days. So you have to force yourself to think that his expectations are very low. Unlike you, he does not quiver, he does not wait for that day to see what surprises you have in store for him. His only concern will be, “If I don’t buy a gift he will be angry.”
And so here we come to the second step: meaning. This applies to Valentine’s Day, and forever. He will not be able to read what is behind the gift itself: a chocolate is sweet, a picture is beautiful, and an album has writing on it. The end. He cannot go one step further.
Valentine’s Day for him is this: a day to buy a flower-or any other gift-because it seems to him that’s the way it should be done. Consequently, don’t spend hours and hours trying to make sense of what you are about to give him. Keep it simple and don’t overestimate his ability to understand. It’s just not worth it.
The third step you have to take is very simple, although it will require a minimum of effort. You will have to try to remember those very brief moments in which you gave him a chance to speak-between one of your endless speeches and the gossip that you absolutely could not avoid telling him-to retrieve the key words you heard from his lips.
They will probably look like these: play, soccer, war, fear, computer. Ah, there will also be a little word that resembles “line,” but I don’t quite remember what it is.
Any gift that intercepts even one of these tags will be most welcome and will be remembered with extreme pleasure. This will happen not because it is a romantic thought, but because he will notice that, from time to time, you also listen to him.
